Upcoming June Litter

May 24, 2008

Vreni is now about two weeks away from her due date. She has slowed down this past week with the continued growth of her tummy. She eats between 8-10 cups of high protein dog food a day. Mixed in with the dog food she gets cottage cheese, egg yolks and added supplements.

Right now I am taking Vreni’s temperature once a day. She stays very consistently at 100.5. Next week I will start taking it twice a day. One of the easiest and best indicators that puppies are imminent is a 2-4 degree temperature drop. This occurs 12-48 hours before the puppies are born.

I was going to get an x-ray done next week so that I could have a puppy count and would know when she was done having puppies on whelping day. But after some more research I found that it might harm the puppies. So I have decided to skip the x-ray and just be surprised on whelping day. I don’t want to do anything that might harm the little ones growing inside her!

Vreni getting used to the whelping box. She has taken to it quite well and is now sleeping in it every night.

All the tiny collars are out and ready! Next week I will get all the whelping supplies and emergency equipment out and ready for the big day!

That is great news about Vreni! 🙂 Bandit is due in about two weeks as well! Her belly has gotten bigger, also! 🙂 I am happy for you, but also VERY happy about my dog’s litter! 😉

Very excited for you, Av! 😀 I love the picture of the collars. Looks like some new variety. How nice to get spoiled for Vreni 🙂 Will pray all goes well on whelping day.

    Hello Ava:

Do you have information about take puppies outside the country? Did you already “export” one of your beauty puppies?

    Bye, bye

    Dear Ava
Thank you for the encouraging news on Vreni. She looks strong and healthy. You are taking great care of her. I understand your not wanting to have X-rays…sounds wise to me too. It will be a wonderful surprise to hear how many puppies she has and the number of males and females.

I will pray all goes well on whelping day.

    Hi Ava,
Congratulations on you and Vreni’s five adorable puppies! My girl, Bali, is due sometime this week and I’m kinda freaking out this will be her first litter and my first time dealing with a puppy momma all on my own!

Congrats again and wish me luck!

    Hi,
I just had my GSD exrated and it didn’t even give me an accurate count! Plus it cost $200! I didn’t even consider the fact that it might be harmful which now makes toal sense! I wish everyone knew this…
    Thanks, Claudia
