What Goes on in the Life of a Puppy

October 19, 2007

The puppies are three weeks old today. They are really starting to get around more. There is quite the mad scramble when Liesl goes into the whelping box to feed them. She has a nice bed outside of the box where she can relax and take breaks when she needs to. She visits it more and more. ๐Ÿ™‚

The puppies all got wormed for the first time today.

All their eyes and ears are fully open. You can tell that they are starting to see more. Their eyes are still a dark blue. They will begin to change to brown in a week or so. Their teeth are starting to come in this week. They like for me to rub their gums with my finger as it relieves some of the itchiness and pain.

I weighed them this morning and they range from 3.1 pounds to 4.7 pounds. All the puppies gained at least a pound in the last week.

Red Collar has the darker face, Orange Collar the lighter face. Both these guys are a nice black and red with Robey’s full and plush coat. This week all the puppies’ personalities have started coming out more. Red male looks to be the dominant one of the bunch. Seems to be the leader and very comfortable and sure of himself. He was the first one to stick his nose in puppy food. He also was the first one to get out of the whelping box. ๐Ÿ™‚ Yesterday I found him out having a private audience with Liesl on her bed. Then right before I went to bed I heard a puppy really crying and went in to see what the trouble was. Well, he was out again. Only Liesl was in with the other puppies….so his plan of having a meal all by himself misfired. ๐Ÿ™‚ I raised the higher wall on the end so he can’t get out…..for another week or so. Liesl has to make a hop to get into the whelping box now. But it is better that way than having puppies escaping and running loose all over the back porch.

Here is Fiesta Collar girl caught on camera while howling for her mommy.

Green Collar male. I think I can already see the impish look in his eye that Liesl has. ๐Ÿ™‚ I think this little guy is going to be one smart cookie!

I had requests for more Blue boy photos. So here he is. Yesterday was their first day outside in the grass. They were quite fascinated with sniffing the grass and feeling it tickle their noses.

Here he is again. Enjoying a little private time with his mom.

Purple girl looking like a teddy bear cuddled up with her brother.

Striped Collar male enjoying a head scratch. (He is actually on my lap while I am writing this. Peacefully sleeping like the good boy he is.)

After looking at my blog, I realized that Pink girl has been neglected in the photos. So I am posting several of her here to make up for that. She is a black and red little girl that is very playful and cute.

These two photo are for the people that have seen the photos of the little puppies and want so much to hold and kiss them, but can’t. This is to let you know that they get lots of hugs and kisses everyday. Pink girl is the one being kissed here. ๐Ÿ™‚

Pink Collar female is quite the cute little thing and she is photogenic on top of that!

Here are Pink girl and Blue boy.

And yes, I am working on a video of the puppies with some of Robey and Liesl in it as well. It will probably be a couple more days until I get it posted here. Thanks for all the comments and suggestions.

Blue Boy is perfectly adorable! (The other puppies are cute too, but he is my favorite). I think he is learning his first track in the picture of him sniffing the grass. He is smart as well as being so handsome! ๐Ÿ™‚ And I’m going to get to hold him tomorrow! ๐Ÿ˜€ Love, jl
